In the United States, today is the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States. On a day like today, it reminds us to pray for our local, state, and national leaders, as well as leaders from around the world. No matter who we supported during the election or what political party we find affiliation with, it is our responsibility as Christians to continue to pray for leaders.
This is a time to look to 1 Timothy 2:1-2:
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Let’s pray for peace and for godly leadership in governments, churches, and major institutions. Please join us in prayer today and every day.
Here are a few more verses to help guide your prayers:
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. – Romans 13:1
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14
The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will. – Proverbs 21:1
