Make Your Own Pumpkin Spice Latte for 1/4 the Cost

Fall is here, which means so are pumpkin spice lattes. The much-beloved frothy beverage has begun gracing coffee shops around the country, and customers are lining up to have that little dose of Fall-In-A-Cup. But they’re spending about $4 every time they do. If you love pumpkin spice lattes but don’t love the price tag, the good news is you can make your own for very little effort — and very little cash.

There are a ton of recipes available online, but this one seems the least complex and gives you the most bang for your buck.

Ingredients:
3 tbsp strong coffee
2/3 cup milk (any type of cow’s milk, or soy)
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
2 tsp honey or agave nectar
sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)

1. First, brew strong coffee. You can use a regular drip coffee maker or french press — no need for an espresso machine.
2. While the coffee is brewing, mix 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice into 2 tsp honey or agave nectar until blended. Set it aside.
3. Next, pour 2/3 cups of cold milk in a microwave-safe bowl. Tilt the bowl on one side, then whisk vigorously for at least 2 1/2 minutes, until frothy.
4. Microwave the milk for 8-10 seconds — it should foam up!
5. Pour the hot coffee into a mug and mix in the honey/agave nectar. Then top with the hot milk, spooning the foam on top. Add cinnamon on top for the true coffee-shop experience. Enjoy!
