Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and no matter what your relationship status is, it’s a great time to reacquaint yourself with what the Bible has to say about healthy, loving romantic relationships.
As believers, we know that we need to have God first in our hearts, even before our loved ones. Every human being, even a spouse, is a brother or sister in Christ, first and foremost. Study these verses and commit them to memory as you consider new and existing relationships.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant. – 1 Corinthians 13:4
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” – Genesis 2:18
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. – 1 John 4:16
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. – Solomon 8:6
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. – Genesis 1:27-28
But you say, ‘Why does he not?’ Because the LORD was witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. – Malachi 2:14-15
For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. – Isaiah 54:5
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. – Colossians 3:14
