As a Christian, it’s difficult not to see examples of injustice in the world when we are called to love others as we love ourselves. When we see an orphan, a widow, or someone else who is in an extremely difficult, and at least on some level unfair, position, we are reminded of our calling to share the love of the Lord with them and to treat them the way we would hope to be treated in a similar situation.
However, many people see a world filled with injustice and begin to worry that God might not care or that he even created that situation. We know, though, that God delivers us from our pain, but is not the author of it. Here are a few verses that remind us of this:
Romans 9:14
What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be!
Isaiah 61:8
For I, the LORD, love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; And I will faithfully give them their recompense And make an everlasting covenant with them.
Proverbs 16:8
Better is a little with righteousness Than great income with injustice.
Ecclesiastes 3:16
Furthermore, I have seen under the sun that in the place of justice there is wickedness and in the place of righteousness there is wickedness.
1 Corinthians 13:6
(Love) does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth
Jeremiah 22:13
Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness and his upper rooms without justice, who uses his neighbor’s services without pay and does not give him his wages…
Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness
Ecclesiastes 5:8
If you see oppression of the poor and denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be shocked at the sight; for one official watches over another official, and there are higher officials over them.
