Budgeting for Your Summer Vacation

Ready for a summer getaway? Aren’t we all! If you’ve been dreaming of sandy beaches or just some summer fun away from the hustle and bustle of your every-day life, but you’re a little low on funds, here are a few tips on how to budget for your summer vacation.

Create a Physical Budget and Use Cash

By putting your money in envelopes that are dedicated to specific budget items (like food, entertainment, parking, etc.) you’ll be less likely to go over and to spend exactly what you intended.

Don’t Eat Out

If you’re looking for a way to save a ton of money on vacation, you need to consider avoiding restaurants! By eating in your hotel, you’ll save big time. Consider bringing an Instant Pot or staying somewhere with a microwave. Meal plan before you leave for your trip so that you don’t have to stress when you get there. Just do a quick grocery store run at the beginning of your trip and you’ll be set!

Opt for a Staycation

Odds are that there are a list of fun things that you’ve been meaning to check out near your own home. Take a few vacation days to become a local tourist. Try new restaurants, do a few tours of historic places, enjoy a festival even. You’d be surprised how relaxing a week at home with no work or distractions can be! Best of all, you won’t have any additional expenses for your lodging!

Budget for Next Year Instead

Perhaps this year you can make the decision to forgo a vacation and instead start investing in a better one for next year. Take some time to figure out what you’d like to do and then break down all of the costs. Start looking at your monthly budget and figure out ways you can either earn additional money or budget to put money towards your dream vacation next year.
