Today’s world is busier and more hectic than ever. We have to balance work, family, church, sleep, food, recreation, and more. It’s easy to get distracted by all of our obligations and end up too stressed to function. What’s worse, sometimes the matters of the world overwhelm us and take priority over our relationship with the Lord.
God doesn’t want us to be stressed. In fact, we’re told repeatedly that everything is taken care of. In Jeremiah 29:11, the Scripture says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
Catching Your Breath
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take time to disconnect from your obligations. God should always be the first priority. Sometimes we don’t seem to have enough time in the day because we’re not using those hours correctly. No matter how busy you are, you can spend at least a few minutes each day in prayer and reading the Word. “There is a time for everything” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
There are several other verses to help you recharge spiritually, and you can turn to them whenever the stress is weighing you down. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” In 1 John 2:17 we read, “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
Business is part of life, but you can’t forget to breathe. Slow down, pursue God in all that you do, and the rest will fall together.
