What the Bible Says about Gratitude

Since Thanksgiving is later this week, it’s the perfect time of year to focus on the things we’re grateful for. But instead of just thinking about superficial things, perhaps this is a good year to really dive deep in your spiritual life and what it means to be grateful as a believer.

As you reflect on this, meditate on the Word. Here are some verses on the subject of gratitude to get you started:

Psalm 136:26

Give thanks to the God of heaven,
For His lovingkindness (graciousness, mercy, compassion) endures forever.

Psalm 100

Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

John 6:11

Jesus took the bread in his hands and gave thanks to God. Then he passed the bread to the people, and he did the same with the fish, until everyone had plenty to eat.

Psalm 95:2

Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and sing joyful songs of praise.

1 Corinthian 29:13

Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

2 Corinthians 2:14

Thanks be to God who leads us, wherever we are, on his own triumphant way and makes our knowledge of him spread throughout the world like a lovely perfume!
