4 Great Places for a Winter Getaway

Summer is still a long way off, but that doesn’t mean you and your family can’t enjoy a weekend getaway now and then. If school schedules permit, you may be able to stretch a mini-vacation into the week. Try one of these lovely winter getaway locations.

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is known for its breathtaking scenery and massive ski resorts. However, if you’re not a skier, there are plenty of other activities. Kings Beach State Recreation Area is ideal for beach-lovers. The D.L. Bliss and Emerald Bay State Parks are available for hikers, and the Donner Memorial Emigrant Trail Museum provides an educational stop.

Telluride

Telluride, CO is home to Bridal Veil Falls, a romantic getaway for newlyweds or spouses who’ve been together for years. The Historical Museum and Sheridan Opera House are ideal stops for seekers of knowledge and culture, and the Bear Creek Trail is perfect for nature-lovers.

Gatlinburg

Through January 31, you and your family can get one more taste of Christmas at the Gatlinburg Magic Trolley Ride of Lights. The beautiful light displays continue during the Gatlinburg Winter Magic Festival through February 28. Gatlinburg also hosts several concerts during its Back Porch Concert Series, as well as the winter Special Olympics.

Orlando, Florida

Disney World is experiencing its slow season, so if you and your family are anxious to go, now is a good time. Newer attractions in the city include the World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure and the Frozen Ever After attraction at Epcot Center.
