The Bible has plenty to say about God’s role as a loving father and what it takes to be a good father in today’s world. Use some of these verses to encourage your dad!
Psalm 103:13
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” Many Christians, especially men, struggle with the idea of God as compassionate because He is also omnipotent and all-powerful. This verse reminds us of God’s infinite compassion. He expects respect and a healthy fear, but He is also willing to gather His children into His arms and lavish love on them.
Joshua 24:15b
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” This has become a rallying cry for many Christian households. Fathers, ask God what serving looks like for your family. It might mean going on a mission trip, becoming more involved at church, or instituting family devotions.
Ephesians 6:11-18
This passage describes the armor of God, going over functions of pieces like the helmet of salvation and shield of faith. It is a picture most men can relate to because they feel responsible for protecting and fighting for their families. Fathers, ask God where your armor is strong and how to strengthen weak places so you can fight for Him and your households.
