The Young Adult section at bookstores has exploded in the last couple of decades, giving young people a huge selection of literature aimed specifically at them. Some of these books may have less than wholesome themes in them, especially when it comes to Young Adult literature aimed at women.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other stories out there with more wholesome themes. Many popular series are appropriate for Christian girls and can help them entertain themselves and further their faith.
- Anne of Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery. This is one of the most timeless series in the literary world. There are eight books in the series and a movie adaptation. The novels explore teenage feelings in a positive and incredible way.
- Secret of the Rose Series, Michael Phillips. This collection includes four books, all written about the fictional character, Sabina. Each story weaves purity and symbolism into the tale, but it also builds on the power of love – an appropriate message for those following our loving God.
- O’Malley Family Series, Dee Henderson. Young women who enjoy mysteries will adore this collection. They follow seven siblings through criminal cases and other exciting situations. There is a bit of appropriate romance, but more importantly, a focus on the importance of love and kinship between family members.
- French Twist Trilogy, Sandra Byrd. This series is lighter and more playful than some of the others. It follows an interesting romance arc through three novels. It is fun and dreamy without including inappropriate scenes.
These four series are just a tiny portion of the Christian books waiting for young women readers. They show that it’s possible to have an interesting read without sacrificing morals.
